Rebecca Dado began her tattoo career in May 2010. It was her last month of college at Otis College of Art and Design. Rebecca and her partner, Martin @mhxbones, bought a cheap (put it together yourself) tattoo starter kit.
They were pretty fearless.
The day they got the equipment they put it all together, and started tattooing each other.
Those tattoos were a mess and they had no idea what they were doing, but they were determined to keep going. Before long they had so many volunteers from school, work, and family that were willing to let them practice tattooing on them. Learning the proper health and safety aspects, Rebecca started tattooing on her own, making house calls for one full year until she got a job at a tattoo shop.
While she built a solid clientele, her partner Martin supported her until her fourth year of tattooing. This was a changing point in her career, she began tattooing delicate florals, and so many people seemed to want what she was offering as a tattoo artist.
It was a moment of realization. She found the style she would specialize in.
At that point she told Martin to quit his job so he could focus on tattooing as well.
They decided they would open a shop of their own and offer florals and other delicate tattoos. They opened Light Grey Studio in September 2015 on the outskirts of Los Angeles.
People come from all over the world to get tattooed by them; France, Greece, Germany,
the Netherlands… and the list goes on.
Rebecca says now that it's very humbling, and she appreciates all of the people who support them. This will be her tenth year of tattooing and she could never have imaged this type of success.
